Re:Storying Education 2026 will be a highly participative gathering that brings together leaders, practitioners, educators, government representatives, NGOs, funders and innovators who share a commitment to strengthening education in South Africa.
Rather than a conference built around presentations and expert panels, this gathering is designed around the collective experience and expertise already present in the room.
Participants will help shape the conversations, contribute their own insights, learn from one another, and identify practical opportunities for collaboration and action.The value of the day will come not from listening to a handful of speakers, but from the willingness of everyone present to bring their own experience, questions and ideas into the conversation.

Looking Back from the Future
Imagine it is the year 2035.
South Africa has made significant progress in creating a more equitable, resilient and future-ready education system. Strong partnerships have emerged across government, schools, communities, business and civil society. New ideas have taken root. Teachers feel better supported. Learners have greater opportunities. Communities have become active partners in education, and innovative solutions have been scaled where they matter most.
As we stand in 2035 and look back over the previous decade, one question remains:
What happened between now and 2035 to make this possible?
This gathering invites us to begin answering those questions together. Through participant-led conversations, we will explore the practical actions, collaborations and leadership required today to create the education system we hope to look back on in ten years' time.
Everyone attending brings an important piece of the picture. Your experience, your questions and your perspective are what will shape the day.
Facilitator
The day will be facilitated by Marike Groenewald using Open Space Technology, an approach that puts the agenda in the hands of the room. Marike's role is not to deliver content but to open the space, hold the process, and help the group move from conversation to practical action.
